FAQ

💡
Below you'll find answers to common questions about setting up your cameras for optimal markerless motion capture with Mimem.AI. Following these guidelines will help ensure your movements are accurately captured.

Q1: How should I place my cameras?
A:
  • Multiple Perspectives: Position your cameras around you to capture diverse angles. A camera height of about 1 meter typically works well.
  • Even Distribution: Space the cameras evenly around your space rather than clustering them together. This helps ensure that every part of your body is captured from at least one angle.
  • Field of View Considerations: If you're shooting indoors, use a lens with a large-ish field of view and choose a shooting depth that matches your space. This prevents you from appearing cropped on the feeds.
  • Device Flexibility: You can use a smartphone as a camera. Although our companion app is on the way, for now, apps like DroidCam can turn your phone into an effective webcam.

Q2: How can I get accurate foot tracking?
A:
  • Visibility: Make sure your feet are visible in at least two camera views at all times.
  • Appropriate Angles: Avoid high-angle shots that might obscure your feet. Adjust your camera angles so your lower body is clearly visible.
  • Contrast: Wear socks or shoes that contrast well with the floor. Good contrast helps the system distinguish your feet from the background.

Q3: How can I capture detailed hand movements?
A:
  • Dedicated Hand Views: Consider positioning one or two cameras to focus specifically on your hands. Although these views may crop out some parts of your body, our algorithm will know how to fuse the information from all the cameras to make the best out of it.

Q4: What video quality and settings are recommended?
A:
  • Resolution: Use cameras that record at least 720p resolution, with 1080p being preferred.
  • Lighting: Good, even lighting helps reduce shadows and glare, which can interfere with accurate tracking.

Q5: How to improve my animations quality?
A:
  • Occlusion Prevention: Most inaccuracies arise from occlusion. Arrange your cameras so that your head, hands, and feet are always visible in at least one view—even if different cameras capture different parts.

Q6: How many cameras should I use?
A:
  • Optimal Setup: We recommend using three cameras for the best overall results. This configuration generally provides comprehensive coverage of your movement. However, you may get started with 1 or 2 cameras to if you don’t need very high accuracy, or just want to get a feel of what mimem.ai is capable of.
  • Future Expansion: In the future, Mimem.AI will support even more cameras, further enhancing capture accuracy.

Additional Guidelines:
  • Lighting and Resolution: Ensure your recording area is well-lit with even lighting. A high resolution (at least 720p, preferably 1080p) is important for capturing detailed movements.
  • Stable Setup: Use tripods or stable surfaces to secure your cameras and avoid any unintended movement that could affect tracking quality.
  • Contrast and Background: A simple, uncluttered background and high contrast between you and your surroundings help reduce tracking errors.
  • Device Flexibility: Recent smartphones often have excellent cameras. They can serve as reliable devices for capturing your movements when paired with apps like DroidCam.
